Test and Characterization Engineer
Alice & Bob
Aubervilliers, France
Posted on Oct 13, 2025
Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!
We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing €100 million of funding in 2025 to develop our unique technology.
Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!
While initially running nanofabrication processes in academic cleanrooms, Alice&Bob is stepping up by building its own prototyping cleanroom in Ile de France (construction started, start of operation beginning 2026). This facility will allow to:
- Speed up the design iteration cycle, by reducing the leadtime of chip fabrication
- Improve the capability of Alice&Bob nanofabrication processes (improving performance and mastering 3D integration)
As part of the Quantum Hardware department, the “Nanofabrication Backend” team will play a pivotal role in operating and developing the “backend of line” used for manufacturing Alice&Bob Quantum Processor.
Technically, this encompasses:
- Room temperature electrical testing
- Dicing
- Optical inspection
- Wirebonding of chips inside sample holders
The team is in charge of:
- operating the tools for the regular delivery of test chips
- developing/improving new processes (for better quality/leadtime/chip selection…)
- overseeing its own tools (daily check of the tools, ensuring maintenance schedules are followed, 1 level of troubleshooting)
- selection, installation and qualification of new tools
As a Test & Characterization Engineer within the Nanofabrication Backend Team, you will play a critical role in validating our fabrication processes, ensuring data reliability, and developing innovative testing methodologies for superconducting qubits. You will contribute to improving wafer and chip performance through rigorous device testing, robust metrology, and collaborative problem-solving across teams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize superconducting qubit testing methods at room temperature, providing fast feedback to nanofabrication processes and ensuring efficient sorting of chips.
- Collaborate with design and process integration teams to define and evaluate test structures that improve wafer- and chip-level performance.
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of equipment metrology, data acquisition systems and inspection equipment.
- Contribute to the identification, procurement, and validation of new test and metrology equipment for the backend nanofabrication line.
- Implement continuous improvement plans to enhance testing efficiency, reliability, and throughput.
- Perform device testing at room temperature, ensuring accurate and reproducible results.
- Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations, helping to close the loop between design, fabrication, and performance.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with device testing, electrical measurements, or semiconductor/metrology equipment.
- Familiarity with superconducting devices or cryogenic measurements is a strong plus.
- Proficiency with data acquisition systems, lab instrumentation, and analysis tools (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, JMP).
- Strong problem-solving mindset, analytical rigor, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environment.
Benefits:
- Our success is your success : own it with our BSPCE plan
- Turn your ideas into patents – and (competitive) patent bonuses
- Flexible remote policy, up to 40 % a month
- A Parental plan including additional benefits such as crèche support or additional days-off to take care of under 12 years old children
- Subsidized membership with Urban Sports Club
- Mental health support with moka.care
- 25-day vacation policy (as per French law) + RTT
- Half of transportation cost coverage (as per French law), or yearly allowance for the die-hard bicycle users
- Competitive health coverage, with Helium/Axa
- Meal vouchers with Swile, as well as access to a fully equipped and regularly stocked kitchen
Recruitment process:
- Screening Call with Giusy, Talent Acquisition Specialist (30 min)
- Hiring Manager Interview with the Hiring Manager (45 min)
- Technical Interview/Presentation with the Team (60 min)
- Leadership and Fit Interview (45 min)
