Description

In this role, you’ll lead the development, maintenance, and governance of aerodrome procedure documents, ensuring full alignment with CAA requirements, Health & Safety standards, and wider regulatory and industry best practice. You’ll oversee aerodrome change management - driving robust engagement, completing safety reviews, and ensuring all changes are implemented safely and effectively. Responsible for the issue, control, and upkeep of airside operational publications under the Head of Airside Operations, including OSIs and the transition to a consolidated Airside Ground Manual, maintaining strong document governance and standards. Work with HAL teams, NATS, airlines, ground handlers, and service providers; ensure supporting materials (including Heathrow airside maps) are kept current; and deliver ad hoc procedural/compliance projects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and maintain aerodrome procedure documents compliant with CAA, Health & Safety and environmental requirements, ensuring strong governance across version control, approvals, distribution and review cycles.
  • Lead aerodrome change management from a documentation perspective, ensuring appropriate engagement, safety assurance and alignment with regulatory and industry best practice.
  • Own and manage Operational Safety Instructions (OSIs) and Heathrow’s airside standards documentation, including coordination of the OSI Working Group and the transition towards a consolidated manual approach.
  • Represent Aerodrome Operations documentation at internal and external forums, engaging HAL teams, NATS, airlines, ground handlers and service partners to agree changes and maintain operational consistency.
  • Ensure supporting operational materials - such as airside maps and related references - are accurate, current and aligned with operational needs.
  • Lead, coach and develop a small team while delivering ad hoc procedural, compliance and continuous‑improvement projects that enhance operational safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including producing high-quality formal documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of airside operations, Heathrow’s regulatory environment, and the practical application of wider regulatory standards and guidance.
  • Operational airside experience at the supervisory level or higher.
  • Experience leading and developing a small team, providing direction, coaching and performance oversight to deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence and ability to pass an occupational health medical to obtain/hold an Airside Driving Permit (all areas).

Ideally, You Will Also Have

  • Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders in complex operational environments (ideally airside/airport operations).
  • Demonstrable experience working within Quality and Safety Management Systems.
