About the job
As a Product Owner for Accounting & Payroll Localisation, you will own the functional scope of Odoo’s Australian accounting and payroll localisations. Working closely with regulatory bodies, local stakeholders, and R&D teams, you will ensure Odoo remains fully compliant with Australian legislation while fitting seamlessly into Odoo’s global product framework.
The role combines regulatory ownership, functional product management, writing functional specifications and documentation, testing solutions, and close collaboration with development teams, with a strong focus on compliance, accuracy, and real-world accounting and payroll use cases

Responsibilities
- Odoo accounting & payroll localisation ownership: own the functional scope of Odoo accounting and payroll localisations, including reporting, tax, and payroll obligations. Ensure full compliance with local legislation and official requirements (e.g. ATO, Clearing Houses)
- Regulatory liaison & compliance monitoring: stay in active contact with regulatory bodies and industry sources, monitor legislative and technical changes (STP, BAS, Super, etc.), and translate these into compliant Odoo localisation requirements
- Local market & business analysis: analyse the local business environment, customer needs, and real-life accounting/payroll use cases to identify localisation gaps, prioritise improvements, and ensure alignment with Odoo’s global framework
- Localisation roadmap & development pipeline management: define and maintain a structured localisation backlog. Manage priorities, dependencies, and delivery timelines based on compliance urgency, customer impact, and product strategy
- Cross-team collaboration with R&D: act as the functional interface between local stakeholders and development teams. Create clear functional specifications, clarify requirements, and ensure developments meet Odoo standards and localisation constraints
- Testing, validation & release readiness: test localisation features end-to-end (including reporting and electronic submissions), validate compliance with authorities, coordinate acceptance testing, and ensure production-ready releases
About you

Here's what we expect from you:
Must have
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting and payroll localisation, including statutory reporting, taxation, and payroll obligations (e.g. BAS, GST, STP, Superannuation).
- Hands-on experience in accounting or payroll product development and/or ERP implementation, ideally in a localisation or compliance-driven context.
- Ability to translate accounting and payroll requirements into ERP logic, including chart of accounts, journals, workflows, reporting, and integrations.
- Strong regulatory and compliance mindset, with the ability to monitor legislative changes and assess their functional and technical impact on the product.
- Creative and autonomous
Nice to have
- Exposure to global ERP frameworks or multi-country localisation projects
- Previous experience as a Product Owner
- Experience working with R&D or software development teams
